The City of Galax collects all real estate and personal property taxes in the
city limits of Galax, at a tax rate of 62 cents per $100 of valuation for real estate and $1.68 per $100 of
valuation for personal property.
City taxes are due December 5th of each year. If the due date falls on a
weekend, the taxes are due on the next business day. A postmark on the due date
is acceptable. Taxes are considered delinquent after the due date, with a 10%
penalty added to unpaid taxes after that date. All unpaid taxes will accrue
interest at the rate of 10% per annum thereafter, until paid. The office of the Director of Finance is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday
through Friday and is located in the Municipal Building at 111 E. Grayson
Street, Galax, Virginia 24333 and can be reached by phone at (276) 236-2131.In most cases you will need a privilege license to conduct business inside
the City of Galax. Please call the Commissioner of Revenue at 276-236-2528
